B.C. Housing Task Force ‘Failing the Vulnerable’
The Surrey Union of Drug Users (SUDU) is warning that B.C.’s new housing task force could trigger mass evictions in supportive housing by removing Residential Tenancy Act protections. The provincial government says the changes aim to address violence, drug use, and health risks, including airborne fentanyl exposure. SUDU argues the plan will disproportionately harm marginalized groups and has issued eight recommendations to improve safety without stripping tenants’ rights.
