Surrey Police Seek B.C. Approval for Training Academy

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) has proposed a satellite training academy to the B.C. government that would train 90 recruits annually at its 65,000-square-foot Surrey facility. Backed by the City of Surrey and the Police Board, the plan aims to reduce pressure on the Justice Institute of B.C. and support growing regional policing needs. The proposal is now under provincial review.

A father and son paddle boarding off Crescent Beach were rescued Saturday afternoon after strong winds and currents pushed them far from shore. The 911 call at 3:15 p.m. on Sept. 20 prompted two nearby Surrey Police Service officers to act quickly, borrowing kayaks and a lifejacket from bystanders. With help from a White Rock tour boat, they brought the pair — who had only one flotation device between them — safely back to land. Both were checked by paramedics and released without injury.
