Surrey Council Votes on $10.8M Centre Block Phase 1 Contract
Surrey City Council will vote tonight on a $10.8 million contract with Stantec Architecture Ltd. for phase one of the Centre Block development in Whalley. The project, a joint venture with Simon Fraser University (SFU), includes SFU’s School of Medicine, an associated childcare centre, City-owned office and retail space, and shared ground-floor areas, including an Indigenous gathering space. SFU will cover 71% of the contract costs, while the City of Surrey is responsible for 29%. City Manager Rob Costanzo noted SFU will manage its portion separately, with City-specific contracts expected in 2026. The development spans levels two to 12, combining education, commercial, and community spaces.
