Fraser Downs Racetrack in Cloverdale Shuts Down

Fraser Downs racetrack in Cloverdale is closing after the City of Surrey reclaimed the lease from Great Canadian Entertainment. Racing operations, including the 5/8-mile oval, stables, and backstretch, have stopped immediately. The closure follows issues such as a rat infestation in the barns. While racing ends, Elements Casino, the racebook, and Yuk Yuk’s comedy club on the property will continue operating. Fraser Downs, a local harness racing landmark since 1976, now faces an uncertain future under city management.

Surrey Opens Nominations for Sports Hall of Fame

Surrey has opened nominations for its inaugural Sports Hall of Fame, which will celebrate the city’s athletic history and honour athletes, coaches, teams, and contributors. The first exhibit will open at the Museum of Surrey in spring 2026, ahead of the planned permanent Hall at the new City Centre Arena. Nominations are open until December 31, 2025 at surrey.ca/sportshall. Inductees will be announced each June following review by an independent committee.
