Surrey launches major sewer inspection to curb overflow
The City of Surrey has approved a $652,881 contract with Dougness Holdings Ltd. to inspect and test North Surrey’s sewer system over the next three years. The $718,200 program will assess 4,451 manholes and 281,760 metres of sewer mains to reduce rainwater inflow, which has tripled system flows during storms. Officials warn excess water strains Metro Vancouver’s limits, drives up treatment costs, and harms the environment. The inspections, beginning this month, aim to curb overflows and protect long-term sustainability.
