Surrey Taps Ex-RCMP Chief to Lead Public Safety Overhaul
The City of Surrey has appointed former RCMP Assistant Commissioner Brian Edwards as General Manager of its newly formed public safety department, effective August 25. Edwards, who led Surrey RCMP from 2020 to 2024 and most recently served as Lower Mainland District Commander, will oversee the integration of Surrey Police Service, Surrey Fire, and bylaw enforcement. His top priority will be guiding the city’s ongoing policing transition. The city has yet to issue a formal public statement.
