Surrey Officers Cleared in Fatal Halfway House Shooting
Two Surrey Police Service officers who fatally shot a high-risk resident at a Surrey halfway house earlier this year will not face charges, the B.C. Independent Investigations Office (IIO) announced on Oct. 23. Officers had responded to an arrest warrant for the individual, who was armed with a large knife and advanced toward police in a confined space. The IIO found the use of lethal force “justified and lawful,” noting the officers acted within the scope of their duties.
