Harbour seal pup Zeus returns to ocean after rescue
A harbour seal pup rescued in a frail state from White Rock’s shoreline in May has been released back into the ocean. The pup, named Zeus, was found hypothermic, dehydrated, and weighing just 7.4 kilograms. After three months of care at the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society, Zeus was released into Howe Sound on September 2 alongside another rehabilitated pup. The non-profit, Canada’s only dedicated marine mammal rescue centre, reported a 94 per cent survival rate this season after rescuing 75 pups.
