Vernon Jackals Win First-Ever B.C. Saratoga Cup
The Vernon Jackals won their first-ever Saratoga Cup at the B.C. Men’s Rugby Championship on Aug. 11 in Salmon Arm, defeating the defending champions Terrace Northmen 20-19 in extra time. The victory ended a decade-long provincial title drought for the Okanagan team, who had previously dominated the league but fell short at provincials. Veteran players like Kevin Stecyk celebrated the milestone, highlighting team spirit and perseverance.
In the women’s division, the Salmon Arm Yeti claimed the B.C. title with a 28-10 win over Rocky Mountain Rogues, while Trail RFC finished third. The tournament showcased the growing talent and competitive depth of B.C. rugby.
