Firefighters battled a blaze at the long-abandoned Noble Custom Cut mill in Maple Ridge on Sunday night, Sept. 21. The fire, reported around 5:45 p.m., sent thick smoke into the sky from the main mill building at 25862 Lougheed Hwy., near the Fraser River. The mill has been inactive for seven to eight years, with no workers on site, though saws and equipment remained inside. Maple Ridge Fire Department led the response, assisted by Mission Fire Rescue Service. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Fire crews in White Rock, B.C., contained a brush fire that broke out Sunday afternoon (Aug. 31) on a steep hillside near Marine Drive, west of Nichol Road. White Rock Fire Rescue and the B.C. Wildfire Service tackled the 0.9-hectare blaze with both ground crews and helicopters. Marine Drive was temporarily closed, but no homes were damaged and no evacuations were required. By 2 p.m., officials confirmed the fire was in the cleanup stage and later listed as under control. The cause remains under investigation.

Clayton Heights Heritage Home Ravaged by Wednesday Blaze

A heritage building in Surrey’s Clayton Heights, once home to the Surrey Little Theatre and originally the Clayton United Church, was severely damaged by fire on Wednesday, August 20. Surrey Fire Service responded around 3 p.m. to the 7000-block of 184 Street, where flames engulfed the front of the building and a nearby car. Witnesses reported explosions before the fire spread. Fire crews contained the blaze from reaching the attic and roof but confirmed extensive structural damage.
