Fire Erupts at Abandoned Maple Ridge Mill
Firefighters battled a blaze at the long-abandoned Noble Custom Cut mill in Maple Ridge on Sunday night, Sept. 21. The fire, reported around 5:45 p.m., sent thick smoke into the sky from the main mill building at 25862 Lougheed Hwy., near the Fraser River. The mill has been inactive for seven to eight years, with no workers on site, though saws and equipment remained inside. Maple Ridge Fire Department led the response, assisted by Mission Fire Rescue Service. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.
