Crescent Beach Shines as Fall Sunsets Draw Visitors

Crescent Beach in South Surrey has remained a popular spot for locals even as fall settles in. On September 23, photographer Geoff Yue captured one of the season’s first sunsets, highlighting the community’s continued love for the historic waterfront. Established as a resort destination in the early 1900s, Crescent Beach has evolved into a year-round retreat, recently ranked sixth among Canada’s top beaches. Families and visitors continue to enjoy its dykes-turned-walkways, scenic views, and rich history, proving its charm endures well beyond summer.

SPS, Kayakers Rescue Father and Son at Crescent Beach

A father and son paddle boarding off Crescent Beach were rescued Saturday afternoon after strong winds and currents pushed them far from shore. The 911 call at 3:15 p.m. on Sept. 20 prompted two nearby Surrey Police Service officers to act quickly, borrowing kayaks and a lifejacket from bystanders. With help from a White Rock tour boat, they brought the pair — who had only one flotation device between them — safely back to land. Both were checked by paramedics and released without injury. Police used the incident to remind the public that personal flotation devices are mandatory on the water.

Ducktona 5000 Returns, Filling Crescent Beach with Cheer

Crescent Beach, B.C., came alive on Sept. 6 as the Ducktona 5000 returned after a four-year break. The sold-out event saw 4,650 rubber ducks race across the water, raising funds for Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 5. Spectators lined the pier to cheer on the top ten finishers, with a $1,000 prize for the winner. Proceeds will help the volunteer rescue crew maintain equipment, fund training, and cover operations. The race, last held in 2019, is one of Station 5’s key fundraisers alongside a rock ’n’ roll dance planned for November 2026.
