A CPKC freight train derailed west of Kamloops on Saturday evening, November 1, near the community of Savona on Kamloops Lake. Seventeen rail cars, including four loaded with fuel, left the track just before 7 p.m. PDT. Environmental crews and provincial officials are on site managing cleanup efforts and assessing any potential environmental impact. The Thompson-Nicola Regional District and Interior Health confirmed there is currently no risk to the Savona water system, with ongoing monitoring in place.
