South Surrey Costco plan moves to public hearing
Plans for a new Costco store and gas station in South Surrey are moving forward after Surrey City Council approved first and second readings of the land-use application on Oct. 20. The proposal, submitted by Costco Wholesale Canada, involves developing a large-format retail site at 1891 and 1947 163 Street and requires amendments to the Official Community Plan and rezoning. A public hearing is set for Nov. 17 at 7 p.m., giving residents a chance to voice their views before the project advances to third reading. While city planners say the plan aligns with regional employment goals, an online petition opposing the project has already gathered nearly 800 signatures.
