The Cloverdale Community Football Association (CCFA) is kicking off its 2025 fall season with the annual Cloverbowl pre-season tournament on Aug. 16–17 at Cloverdale Athletic Park. Players, coaches, and volunteers have been preparing for the season opener. The event will feature a concession run by the Surrey Central Lions Club, with proceeds supporting local charities, and will also collect food donations for the Surrey Food Bank. CCFA aims to build on last year’s success, which included two provincial championship wins, while promoting youth sports and community engagement.

The Cloverdale 9U Spurs had a standout summer, winning gold at the Rumble in the Ridge baseball tournament in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge from July 11–13.

The team, which expanded from one squad to two this season due to growing interest, beat Ridge Meadows Kelly 9U, avenged a loss to the Chilliwack Cougars, and then defeated Ridge Meadows Cain 9U in the semifinals.

In the gold medal game, they overcame an early deficit to beat White Rock 6–4, securing their second straight title at the event. They wrapped up their season with a third-place finish at the Andrew’s Invitational in Cloverdale.

Cloverdale, B.C. – Ugly Potato Day is back on August 9 at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds, aiming to distribute 500,000 pounds of free produce to over 30,000 people. Organized by farmer Ty Heppell and sponsored by Odd Bunch, the event promotes food security and fights food waste by giving away imperfect but edible fruits and vegetables. While a Guinness World Record attempt was dropped due to logistics, the mission to feed local families continues. Free admission, pre-registration encouraged. Event runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with family activities, a DJ, and food trucks.

Crash Shuts Down 176th Street in Cloverdale for Hours

A serious crash on 176th Street north of Fraser Highway sent one driver to hospital and closed the northbound lane for several hours on the evening of July 31. The vehicle veered off the road and landed in a water-filled ditch around 9 p.m. Surrey Fire’s Technical Rescue Team extricated the driver, who sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews cleared the scene later that night. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
