Surrey OKs Early Excavation for Two Key City Projects
Surrey City Council has approved early excavation permits for two major non-residential projects: the Centre Block development in City Centre and Crescent Academy in Cloverdale. This marks the expansion of a 2024 pilot program—originally intended for housing—to now include institutional and commercial developments. The move allows builders to begin excavation ahead of final rezoning and development approvals, aiming to speed up construction timelines. The Centre Block project includes SFU’s new medical school, while Crescent Academy is a planned K–12 private school for 750 students. Permanent bylaw changes to support this fast-track process are expected in early 2026.
