B.C. Expands Child-Care Spaces in Surrey Schools
B.C. has announced 640 new child-care spaces across 12 communities, including at Ta’Talu Elementary in South Surrey. The $23.5 million investment, part of the ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund, aims to provide families with affordable, accessible, and safe care directly on school grounds. Education Minister Lisa Beare highlighted that provincially funded spaces have grown to 156,000, cutting average daily fees from $47 to $19. Parents and officials say the move eases childcare challenges, supports working families, and strengthens local communities.
