Staple Found in Halloween Candy Prompts Surrey Warning
Surrey Police Service (SPS) is reminding parents to inspect their children’s Halloween candy after a metal staple was found inside a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup in the Clayton Heights area. The discovery was reported around 2 p.m. on November 1, when a parent contacted police after finding the staple in their child’s treat bag. Officers from the Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) responded and confirmed the candy was collected between 188 and 190 Streets and 70 to 72 Avenues. Police are investigating to determine how the staple ended up in the candy and whether tampering occurred. SPS is urging families to carefully check all Halloween treats and to report any suspicious items to the non-emergency line at 604-599-0502.
