Battle of Britain at 85: Remembering “The Few”
Canada is marking the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, honouring the Allied pilots known as “The Few” who defended the United Kingdom from Nazi invasion in 1940. About 100 Canadian pilots served in the campaign, with 23 losing their lives. Their efforts contributed to preventing Germany from gaining air superiority, forcing Adolf Hitler to abandon plans to invade Britain. Officials say the battle remains a symbol of international cooperation, courage, and the ongoing defence of democratic freedoms.
