Royal Canadian Theatre Company launches its season with sci-fi comedy They Came From Mars… at Surrey Arts Centre, Sept. 26-28.
A Season Begins With Comedy
The Royal Canadian Theatre Company is opening its 2025-26 season in Surrey with They Came From Mars and Landed Outside the Farndale Avenue Church Hall in Time for the Townswomen’s Guild’s Coffee Morning. Performances run from Friday, Sept. 26 to Sunday, Sept. 28 at the Surrey Arts Centre’s Main Stage.
A Play About Plays Gone Wrong
The story follows the Farndale community theatre group as it tries to stage a sci-fi drama before the playwright. With no funds and little experience, the characters stumble into chaos, creating a spectacle of slapstick and innuendo.
Behind the Ridiculousness
Director Kerri Norris leads a cast of five actors who juggle eight characters: Justine Jones, Rebecca Trotzuk, Amanda Haggett, Natalie Gifford, and Conor Kavanagh. Technical director Stephanie Bruce calls the show “completely and utterly ridiculous,” noting that no two nights will look the same.
Where to Get Tickets
Single tickets, family packs, and group rates are sold through tickets.surrey.ca or by phone at 604-501-5580. Audiences who miss the Surrey run can see the same production Oct. 3-5 at Anvil Theatre in New Westminster.
What’s Next for the Company
Beyond Mars, rehearsals are already underway for the company’s holiday pantomime The Little Mermaid, opening Dec. 19 in Surrey and Jan. 2 in New Westminster. The spring slot in 2026 will feature The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, adapted for family audiences.
