Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society raises more than $70,000 at 11th annual Ignite a Dream gala, supporting educational bursaries for local youth.
Local Charity Event Surpasses $70,000 Target
On September 20, 2025, more than $70,000 was raised at the 11th annual Ignite a Dream gala, hosted by the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society (SFFCS). The funds exceed previous years, thanks to strong community backing and matched donations.
Gathering at a Familiar Venue
The event took place at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Cloverdale campus in Surrey, BC. Over 300 guests, including volunteers, business sponsors, civic leaders, and residents, gathered to support the cause in person.
Matching Donations Drive Momentum
Once again, the Gary & Gail Grelish Foundation matched donations up to $30,000, significantly boosting fundraising. Additional funds came from restaurant sponsors, beverage partners, media affiliates, and a platinum sponsor, all playing pivotal roles.
Investing in Youth Through Education
Funds will be directed toward educational scholarships and bursaries for Surrey’s youth, particularly those facing financial or personal hardships. The SFFCS aims to dismantle barriers to post-secondary education by recognizing resilience and determination in applicants.
Endorsements from Community Leaders
Surrey’s Mayor Brenda Locke and Councillor Gord Hepner attended the gala, praising the initiative. Mike Vincent, vice-president of the SFFCS board, emphasized the event is “a movement driven by compassion,” while thank-yous were extended to sponsors, volunteers and attendees.
Proven Track Record of Impact
Since its inception, Ignite a Dream has awarded more than $500,000 in bursaries to deserving students in Surrey. The 2025 fundraiser adds another chapter to a sustained effort to support local learners. For more details or to contribute, visit surreyfirefighters.com.
