Robbery Suspect Rearrested in Surrey
The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says a 26-year-old man accused of robbery has been rearrested after failing to appear in court and allegedly brandishing a knife downtown this week.
Original Robbery Incident
Police allege that on July 16, Jaskaran Dhaliwal approached a 59-year-old woman near 151 Street and 56 Avenue, grabbed her purse, and fled. Bystanders intervened and detained him until officers arrived. Dhaliwal was arrested at the scene and later released on conditions.
Court records show that a robbery charge was formally laid in late August.
Court No-Show and Knife Allegation
Dhaliwal was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday but failed to attend. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Thursday, SPS officers responded to reports circulating on social media of a man brandishing a knife near City Parkway and 102 Avenue. Officers attended and arrested Dhaliwal on the outstanding warrant.
Next Steps
Police say additional charges are being considered. Dhaliwal remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.
