BC Twins Chart Careers as Senior Ferry Captain & Engineer

Bartlett Twins Take the Helm on BC Ferries

From the landlocked town of Telkwa, British Columbia, Bartlett twins Lori and Jodi have navigated their way to extraordinary maritime careers. Now seasoned professionals, they serve as a Senior Captain and Senior Chief Engineer on BC Ferries’ coastal fleet. Their journey demonstrates dedication, skill, and a love for the sea that has spanned over three decades.

Lori Bartlett-Tribbeck commands the BC Ferry Northern Adventure, covering two routes. One sails the scenic inside passage from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy, and the other crosses Hecate Strait to Skidegate, Haida Gwaii. Meanwhile, her twin sister, Jodi Bartlett-Gaudet, serves as Senior Chief Engineer on the Island Kwigwis, which operates between Nanaimo and Gabriola Island.

Careers Set Apart but Intertwined

Despite sharing birthdays in September, Lori and Jodi have carved unique professional paths. Lori navigates using the latest electronic charts and GPS technologies, while Jodi pioneers the engineering of hybrid-electric vessels. BC Ferries recently announced that Jodi will lead as Senior Chief Engineer on the first of four new island-class hybrid-electric ships, currently being built in Romania.

The new assignment may also include sea trials in Romania before the ship arrives in Canada in early 2026. Both sisters embrace the evolving demands of maritime careers, with Lori focusing on operational leadership and navigation while Jodi advances the technical frontier of electric ferries.

Celebrating Leadership in Maritime Careers

BC Ferries proudly displays photos of Lori and two other female Senior Captains on banners throughout their fleet and terminals. This recognition highlights their remarkable achievements and inspires future generations of women in maritime careers.

For the Bartlett twins, the open sea remains both a workplace and a home away from home. Their story reflects passion, perseverance, and the expanding opportunities for skilled professionals in British Columbia’s ferry system.
