Cloverdale Sport and Ice Complex Welcomes the Community
Surrey residents have a reason to celebrate as the Cloverdale Sport and Ice Complex officially opens this October. The twin arena on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds is already operational, but the city is rolling out the red carpet for its grand opening on October 25. Mayor Brenda Locke and other local leaders will mark the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, inviting the public to explore the state-of-the-art facility.
This long-awaited complex offers expanded access to skating, hockey, and recreational programs suitable for all ages. The city hopes residents will join the four-hour celebration, enjoy a free skate, and experience the energy of a community-focused event.
Grand Opening Schedule
Doors will open at 11 a.m., followed by an official ceremony at noon. The first free public skate will begin at 12:30 p.m. on the west “blue” rink, while on-ice demonstrations will kick off at 12:45 p.m. on the east “red” rink. The festivities will continue until 3 p.m., providing a full afternoon of entertainment for families, friends, and hockey enthusiasts alike.
Entertainment for All Ages
The grand opening isn’t just about skating. Visitors can expect live music from the Pat Chessell Trio, captivating stilt performances, interactive face painting for children, and engaging games. Cosmo Circus and ARTLIFT will also showcase unique acts throughout the event. For those who want to glide across the ice, free skate and helmet rentals will be available, though bringing personal equipment is encouraged due to high demand.
Community Engagement On Ice
The city has partnered with local sporting groups to offer on-ice demonstrations that highlight the skills and programs available in Surrey. These showcases will give attendees a firsthand look at the opportunities for both recreational and competitive hockey and skating within the community.
The Cloverdale Sport and Ice Complex grand opening promises to be more than a ribbon-cutting ceremony—it’s a celebration of community, activity, and fun for all ages. Residents are encouraged to come early, enjoy the performances, and experience one of Surrey’s newest hubs for sport and recreation.
