Abbotsford debuts B.C.’s first Piaggio Ape pizza truck

A slice of Italy has rolled into Abbotsford, where Ranallo’s Pizza launched B.C.’s first-ever Piaggio Ape food truck this summer.

Italian tradition on three wheels

The tiny three-wheeled Piaggio Ape, a rare sight in Canada, has become the heart of Ezio Ranallo’s mobile pizzeria. Sourced from Alberta, the vehicle is fitted with a Fontana Forni outdoor oven, allowing authentic pizzas to be prepared fresh at private and public events.

Pizza with passion and family roots

For Ranallo, who spent 25 years in law enforcement, pizza making is more than business—it’s therapy and a tribute to his family’s former shop. Guests can even join the process, with children often making their own pizzas. Signature favourites like Margherita and hot honey pepperoni have quickly won over customers.

Inspired by a champion chef

The idea began after Ranallo trained under Giuseppe Cortinovis, a two-time Canadian pizza champion. The two now collaborate, bringing Neapolitan-style pies to the Fraser Valley. Ranallo also hopes to offer pizza-making courses locally in the future.

Community events and future plans

Ranallo’s Pizza has already appeared at the Langley Cruise-In, the APD Car Meet, and weddings across the region. Upcoming stops include Taste of Abby on Sept. 19 and the Fort Langley Cranberry Festival on Oct. 11.

“The whole idea is to bring Italian tradition into the community,” Ranallo said. “It’s a food truck like no other, and we’re here to stay.”
