Surrey Takes Action to Tackle Noise Complaints

Surrey Councillor Rob Stutt is pushing to strengthen the city’s noise bylaw, targeting loud vehicles, fireworks, and large gatherings. The goal is to protect residents, pets, and restore neighborhood peace.

Councillor Rob Stutt pushes for stronger noise rules in Surrey to protect residents, pets, and restore neighborhood peace.

Councillor Calls for Quieter Streets in Surrey

Surrey residents may soon enjoy quieter neighborhoods, thanks to a push from Councillor Rob Stutt. On Monday, Stutt urged city staff to review the city’s noise bylaw, aiming to tighten rules around large gatherings, fireworks, and loud vehicles.

“This is about quality of life,” Stutt told council members. “Our bylaw sets standards, but gaps remain. Residents want stronger protections, and it’s our job to respond.”

Noise Complaints Remain Top Concern

City-wide, noise complaints continue to rank among the most frequent issues raised by Surrey residents. Stutt highlighted growing frustration over excessive noise from late-night parties and revving engines.

“With Halloween approaching, fireworks will add to the disturbances,” he noted. “Noise isn’t just annoying—it disrupts sleep, stresses families, pets, and seniors, and diminishes the comfort of our own homes.”

Aiming for Stronger Protections

The review seeks to ensure the bylaw better reflects community needs. Stutt emphasized that these changes are about safeguarding peace, protecting animals, and restoring the quiet enjoyment that every resident deserves.

“Stronger measures aren’t just rules—they’re a commitment to our community’s wellbeing,” he said.
