Gunfire

Surrey police are investigating after gunfire damaged a vehicle early Monday. No injuries were reported, and officers are seeking dashcam footage.

Gunfire Jolts Quiet Surrey Street

Residents in Surrey’s 5800-block of 124 Street woke to unsettling news on Monday morning after a parked vehicle was struck by gunfire. Surrey Police Service (SPS) confirmed they were called to the area just after 4 a.m. following reports of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they discovered bullet damage to a vehicle and other signs confirming gunfire. Thankfully, no one inside the nearby home or in the neighborhood was injured.

Police Launch Investigation

By mid-morning, investigators were canvassing the area, speaking with residents, and searching for evidence. Officers are expected to review CCTV and dashcam footage in hopes of piecing together what happened.

The case is now in the hands of SPS’s Frontline Investigative Support Team. While the motive remains unclear, investigators are not ruling out connections to other recent incidents.

Second Shooting in Less Than a Week

This latest gunfire marks the second such incident in Surrey in just three days. On Friday, Sept. 5, officers responded to reports of multiple shots in the 14300-block of 28 Avenue around 3:50 a.m. Numerous shell casings were recovered at that scene, which police believe was linked to extortion.

Appeal for Public Assistance

Police are urging anyone with information about Monday’s shooting—or who may have been near 58 Avenue and 124 Street around 4 a.m.—to come forward. Dashcam or surveillance footage could be vital to the investigation.

Witnesses can contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 (file number 25-77900 (SP)). To remain anonymous, tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
