Major Tournament Comes to Surrey

Morgan Creek Golf Course is preparing for its biggest event yet as it gets set to host the 2025 Fortinet Cup Championship from September 22 to 28. The prestigious stop on the PGA Tour Americas will bring top golfers from around the world to South Surrey, with as many as 2,000 spectators expected daily.

High Stakes for Rising Stars

The Fortinet Cup Championship is the season-ending event for PGA Tour Americas, open only to the top 120 players in the tour’s rankings. The stakes are high: the top 10 finishers in South Surrey will secure promotion to the Korn Ferry Tour, one step below the PGA Tour. Most of the players are in their early 20s, fresh out of college, and chasing their professional breakthrough.

Why Morgan Creek Was Chosen

Morgan Creek, a Thomas McBroom-designed course, is known for its meticulously maintained greens and challenging yet fair design. Director of golf operations Tom Doull said the venue was a natural fit to host a tournament of this scale. “It’s the biggest event we have ever held or could ever hold at Morgan Creek,” Doull noted, emphasizing the excitement of welcoming international talent.

Local Charity Connection

Beyond golf, the championship will have a strong community impact. A close tie exists between Morgan Creek and Sources, a South Surrey–based charity. The connection honours a late longtime employee who fundraised for Sources Women’s Place. Staff continue her legacy by donating a portion of their golf fees to the organization. Proceeds from the Fortinet Cup will support Sources’ Foundry project, a youth walk-in centre in South Surrey/White Rock.

Community and Ticket Access

Tournament tickets are priced at $15, with $5 from each ticket going to designated charities, including Sources and the Child Foundation. Children under 16 can attend for free. Organizers say that strong Canadian performances and good weather could draw thousands to the grounds, making it a festival atmosphere for players and fans alike.

Event Schedule and Details

Practice rounds begin early in the week, with official competition starting Thursday, September 25 and running through Championship Sunday on September 28. Tickets are available online at fortinetcupchampionship.com, offering residents a chance to see future PGA stars in action while supporting local causes.
