Canucks Tee Off in Surrey for Charity Golf Classic

The Vancouver Canucks teed off in Surrey for the 41st Jake Milford Charity Golf Tournament, raising funds for kids and families ahead of the NHL season. The annual event honors former GM Jake Milford while bringing players, alumni, and fans together for a meaningful cause.

The Canucks hit Surrey’s Northview for the 41st Jake Milford golf tourney, raising big funds for kids and families ahead of the NHL season.

Canucks Hit the Greens to Kick Off Hockey Season

The Vancouver Canucks are trading their hockey sticks for golf clubs this Monday, Sept. 8, as they roll into Surrey for one of their most beloved pre-season traditions. The 41st Jake Milford Canucks Charity Invitational Golf Tournament is set to bring players, coaches, alumni, and fans together at Northview Golf & Country Club—all for a good cause.

A Tradition with Heart

Known simply as “The Jake”, the event is more than just a golf outing. It honors former Canucks general manager Jake Milford, who led the team through the late 1970s and early ’80s before passing away from pancreatic cancer in 1984. Each year, his legacy fuels a tournament that blends fun, community, and philanthropy.

Raising Funds, Making a Difference

Last year’s tournament brought in nearly $588,000, and organizers are aiming to top that in 2025. Proceeds will support the Canucks For Kids Fund and the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Foundation, two charities that provide vital help to children and families across B.C.

Golfers looking to join the action this year face a $2,500 entry fee per person or $8,500 for a three-player team. Each group is paired with a Canucks “celebrity”—from current players to coaches and alumni—which makes the experience one-of-a-kind.

Big Prizes on the Line

It’s not just about the golf. Fans and supporters can also enter an online raffle at canucks.com/milfordraffle, featuring standout prizes, including an 18K white gold diamond bracelet valued at $16,600. Ticket sales close at 5 p.m. sharp on Monday, Sept. 8.

A Celebration Before the Puck Drops

Rain or shine, “The Jake” has always drawn crowds. Last September, even a light drizzle couldn’t dampen spirits as hundreds gathered for breakfast before the shotgun-style tee-off. With this year’s event once again presented by KPMG, excitement is building for what has become the ultimate season kickoff.

Looking Ahead to the Ice

Following the golf tournament, the Canucks will head into training camp at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton (Sept. 18–21). The first pre-season game is slated for Sept. 21 in Seattle, followed by a Sept. 24 matchup against the Calgary Flames in Abbotsford.

With golf clubs swinging and pucks soon dropping, it’s clear: the Canucks are ready for a season that promises both excitement and impact.
