Police respond to early morning shots fired
Surrey Police are investigating a suspected extortion-related shooting in South Surrey after multiple shell casings were discovered in the early hours of Friday, Sept. 5. Officers were dispatched to the 14300 block of 28 Avenue around 3:50 a.m. following reports of gunfire.
Evidence found but no injuries reported
Upon arrival, officers located several shell casings along 28 Avenue. According to police, no homes were struck by bullets, and there were no injuries. The incident remains under active investigation.
Part of rising trend in extortion cases
The shooting is believed to be linked to ongoing extortion cases in the region. As of Aug. 20, police have recorded 28 extortion reports in Surrey in 2025 alone, according to Surrey Police media relations officer Sgt. Tige Pollock.

Investigators are urging residents with information, dashcam footage, or CCTV recordings from the area to come forward.
