Heritage barn revival fundraiser coming to South Surrey

A Rocha BC Centre will host its Summer Shindig in the Barn on Sept. 20 in South Surrey to raise funds for restoring a 1930s heritage barn. The $50 ticketed event features live music, local food, and auctions, with proceeds supporting the barn’s transformation into a year-round community hub.

Heritage barn revival fundraiser coming to South Surrey

A Rocha hosts Summer Shindig in South Surrey on Sept. 20 to fund restoration of a 1930s heritage barn into a year-round community hub.

Heritage barn fundraiser announced

A Rocha BC Centre has confirmed it will host the Summer Shindig in the Barn on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. at 1620 192 Street in South Surrey. The ticketed gathering aims to raise funds for the restoration of a 1930s heritage barn, transforming it into a multi-use community and conservation education centre.

Why the restoration matters

The yellow barn, a local landmark, is central to A Rocha’s vision of expanding its community programs. Current facilities only accommodate 40 participants, but once restored, the barn could serve more than 2,000 children, 200 seniors, 100 vulnerable families, and hundreds of teachers and community leaders each year. Plans also include space for concerts, art exhibitions, and a community café and market.

What guests can expect

The evening will showcase locally sourced appetizers, desserts, and beverages, paired with live entertainment from The Coveralls. Guests will also have the chance to bid in live and silent auctions, featuring prizes such as handmade quilts, $500 gift baskets, sustainably raised meat, a side of beef, and Canadian getaway packages including an oceanfront cottage in Ladysmith and a private island retreat near Telegraph Cove.

Access beyond the barn

Participation is not limited to in-person attendees. Online registration allows anyone to join the live and silent auctions remotely, expanding community involvement beyond South Surrey.

Tickets and theme

Tickets are priced at $50 and are available through Eventbrite. Organizers encourage guests to add a splash of yellow to their outfits in tribute to the barn’s original colour.

Looking ahead

With support from this fundraiser, A Rocha aims to revitalize the barn into a four-season hub for education, conservation, and cultural events. Details on the event and restoration campaign are available at arocha.ca.
