Surrey Forum Brings Communities Together Against Gang Violence

BC Muslim Association Hosts Surrey Forum on Gang Violence

The Surrey forum aims to address rising concerns around gang violence while uniting faith communities to safeguard local youth. The BC Muslim Association is hosting the Guns, Drugs and Gangs public safety forum on Sunday, Aug. 31, at Surrey Jamea Masjid, 12407 72 Ave., from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. following Zohar prayer.

A Community-Driven Initiative

“This community-driven initiative unites faith communities to protect our youth and build a safer future,” said the BC Muslim Association. The forum will offer practical strategies for families, community leaders, and young people to combat gang-related issues.

Key Speakers and Guests

Keynote speaker Yusef-Andre Wiley, a former Blood Gang member from South Central Los Angeles, will share his experiences and insights. Imam Osama Raj and other community members, along with elected officials, will join the discussion to provide local context and solutions.

Who Should Attend

Organizers encourage parents, youth, and community leaders to attend, listen, learn, and commit to actionable steps for neighborhood safety. “Whether you’re a parent worried about your teenager or a young person ready to be part of the change, this forum is for you,” organizers stated.

Event Partners and Registration

The forum is organized by Foundation for a Path Forward in partnership with KidsPlay Foundation, with support from SACH BC, Moving Forward Family Services, and Penny Appeal Canada. Attendees are asked to register in advance for the free event to ensure seating.
