What started as a calm afternoon of cricket in North Surrey quickly spiraled into chaos when a shocking attack disrupted the match. On Sunday, August 24, at around 4:35 p.m., Surrey Warriors Cricket Club’s secretary, Parvesh Kumar, was allegedly sprayed in the face with bear spray while quietly watching his team play.
Kumar, who had been sitting alone on a grassy slope, said the burning pain in his eyes and face was immediate and overwhelming.
Teammates Rush to Help
Hearing his desperate cries for help, teammates rushed over within seconds. Some tried to chase the suspect, who fled to a silver vehicle waiting nearby, while others focused on helping Kumar. Water made the pain worse, but a neighbor provided milk, which gave some relief.
CCTV Footage Raises Questions
According to Kumar, footage later obtained by his teammates shows three individuals running into the waiting car. However, Surrey RCMP officers said no usable footage or witnesses have been found. Without leads, the case was marked as concluded—unless new information emerges.
This decision has left Kumar frustrated. He told local media that he feels the police are treating the attack as a low priority, despite its seriousness.
A Threat Beyond One Man
For Kumar, the attack was more than just personal. As secretary and founder of the club, he believes it was a strike against the entire cricket community.
“Someone attacking me while I watched a game is like attacking the club itself,” he said. “This is a threat to all members.”

Physically, Kumar continues to suffer from skin and eye irritation. Mentally, the impact lingers as he replays the terrifying moment in his mind.
“I feel helpless and scared for my safety,” he admitted.
