White Rock Thanksgiving Food Drive Seeks Volunteers

The 2025 BC Thanksgiving Food Drive in White Rock and South Surrey is seeking volunteers to help local families in need. Organized by the LDS Church in partnership with Sources South Surrey/White Rock Food Bank, the drive runs September 14–20, with home donation pickups on September 20. Volunteers will distribute donation bags and collect non-perishable food items. Nearly 1,000 people rely on the food bank each week, and organizers urge the community to donate food, money, or time to help fight local hunger. Expired items cannot be accepted.

Volunteers

Help fight hunger! White Rock and South Surrey need volunteers for the 2025 Thanksgiving Food Drive to support local families in need.

Local Food Drive Needs Volunteers This Thanksgiving

As the crisp fall air approaches and school routines begin, Thanksgiving is right around the corner. While many imagine a table piled high with turkey, potatoes, and pumpkin pie, not all families in South Surrey and White Rock will share that bounty.

For some, the cupboards are nearly empty. That’s where the BC Thanksgiving Food Drive steps in — and this year, volunteers are urgently needed.

A Longstanding Tradition of Community Support

Since 2008, the BC Thanksgiving Food Drive (BCTFD) has helped feed thousands of people across British Columbia. Locally, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) organizes the event in collaboration with Sources South Surrey/White Rock Food Bank, a key member of Food Banks BC.

Thanks to hundreds of volunteers, the campaign collects thousands of pounds of food each year. But, according to event coordinator Duane Johnson, finding enough helping hands is becoming a challenge.

“We are looking for volunteers from our community to support our community,” Johnson said. “More volunteers mean more food for those in need right here in South Surrey and White Rock.”

Dates and How You Can Help

This year’s food drive runs from September 14–20, with home donation pickups scheduled for Saturday, September 20. Volunteers will distribute bags to residents for non-perishable food donations from Monday through Thursday, September 15–18. Filled bags should be left on doorsteps by 9 a.m. on pickup day.

Hunger Hits Close to Home

Carrie Belanger, Sources White Rock/South Surrey Food Security Manager, emphasized the urgency:

“No one in our community should have to worry about their next meal, yet nearly 1,000 people rely on our food bank every week. Drives like this let us stand together and show we care.”

She added that contributions of food, money, or volunteer time make a tangible difference for local families.

Make a Difference This Thanksgiving

By volunteering or donating, residents aren’t just filling shelves — they’re helping build a community where no one faces hunger alone. Remember, expired items cannot be accepted.
