B.C. Cyclist’s Cross-Country Ride Hits Ottawa Milestone

Kevin Binnie, a Maple Ridge cyclist, has reached Ottawa on his cross-country charity ride. Starting in Victoria on July 1, Binnie aims to raise $8,000 to support underprivileged children in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows by helping them stay active in sports. His journey will conclude in Cape Spear, Newfoundland, by mid-September. Along the way, Binnie says the kindness of Canadians has been “absolutely amazing” and continues to motivate him on his mission.

B.C. Cyclist’s Cross-Country Ride Hits Ottawa Milestone

B.C. man bikes across Canada to support kids’ athletics, reaching Ottawa as he pedals toward Newfoundland on his inspiring charity journey.

A Cross-Country Mission on Two Wheels

Imagine pedaling thousands of kilometers with one goal in mind—helping kids play sports. That’s exactly what Kevin Binnie from Maple Ridge, B.C., set out to do. On July 1, he hopped on his bike in Victoria and began a charity ride across Canada, aiming to raise $8,000 for underprivileged children in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. His mission? To give more kids the chance to stay active and involved in athletics.

Ottawa Marks a Big Milestone

Now, weeks into his journey, Binnie has reached Ottawa—a major checkpoint on his ride to Cape Spear, Newfoundland, which he expects to hit by mid-September. The ride has been grueling, but every push of the pedals reminds him why he started.

Canadians Cheering Him On

“It’s just absolutely amazing,” Binnie shared, reflecting on the journey so far. What has stood out most to him isn’t only the scenery but also the kindness of Canadians he’s met along the way. “Completely reinforcing that Canadians are so amazing,” he added, moved by the encouragement and support he’s received at every stop.

Riding for a Cause Bigger Than Himself

For Binnie, this isn’t just about reaching Newfoundland—it’s about making sure every child has the chance to run, jump, and play. His cross-country ride is more than a physical challenge; it’s a powerful reminder that when people come together, kids can get the opportunities they deserve.
