Fraser Health appoints Dermot Kelly as CEO, bringing two decades of leadership to guide British Columbia’s largest health authority.

Dermot Kelly Named Fraser Health CEO in Leadership Shift

Dermot Kelly Takes Helm at Fraser Health

Fraser Health has officially announced Dermot Kelly as its new CEO, marking a significant leadership transition for British Columbia’s largest health authority. The board confirmed his appointment on August 18, following months of interim leadership under Lynn Stevenson after Dr. Victoria Lee’s departure in February.

Kelly arrives with over two decades of experience in British Columbia’s health system, a career that blends leadership, operational expertise, and a focus on patient-centered care. His background and vision for the region align with Fraser Health’s mission to serve communities stretching from Burnaby to Boston Bar.

Board Expresses Strong Confidence

Opreet Kang, chair of Fraser Health’s board of directors, praised Kelly’s record, highlighting his ability to foster collaboration and deliver on the authority’s most urgent priorities. Kang emphasized that Kelly’s “leadership, experience, and compassion will shape a stronger future for Fraser Health.”

The board reaffirmed its trust in Kelly’s ability to strengthen relationships with staff, physicians, and communities across the diverse region.

Proven Leadership During Critical Times

During his six-year tenure at Fraser Health, Kelly held key leadership roles, including supporting Access and Flow throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. His performance during one of the toughest challenges in modern healthcare positioned him as a trusted leader capable of steering the organization forward.

Kelly succeeds Lynn Stevenson, who stepped in as interim CEO during the leadership shakeup earlier this year. Stevenson replaced Dr. Victoria Lee, who left in February with a severance of $609,335.

Kelly’s Vision for Fraser Health

In his first statement as CEO, Kelly called the appointment “an honour” and reflected on the resilience of Fraser Health’s staff. “I have seen firsthand the strength, dedication, and heart that defines this organization,” he said. He pledged to lead with humility, courage, and purpose while focusing on building a health system that supports people and inspires hope.

Largest Health Authority in British Columbia

Fraser Health remains the largest regional health authority in British Columbia, employing nearly 48,000 staff across 12 hospitals and multiple care facilities. With Kelly now at the helm, the agency looks to reinforce its role in delivering quality healthcare to one of the province’s fastest-growing populations.
