A New Era for Local Business Leaders
The long-anticipated merger of the Surrey Board of Trade and South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce is now reality. With federal approval secured, the Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade (SWRBOT) has officially begun operations as one unified organization. CEO Joslyn Young called it an “exciting new chapter” for the business community, promising changes that reflect the group’s fresh identity.
Phased Transition and Brand Launch
Young confirmed the transition will roll out in stages, with some updates arriving quickly and a major brand reveal planned for October. She emphasized that the united organization will deliver a stronger voice for local businesses in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. Her message to members was clear — diversify trade portfolios while maintaining trusted relationships to ensure both resilience and growth.
Navigating Global Challenges
Recently attending a cross-border conference, Young acknowledged political challenges but highlighted the importance of strong business ties and smart strategies. She encouraged members to join the Sept. 11 CUSMA compliance session, aimed at helping businesses navigate Canada–U.S.–Mexico trade agreements successfully.
Member Engagement and Listening Tour
This fall, Young will host a “Listening Tour” with roundtables to hear directly from members about their challenges, ideas, and visions. This input will shape SWRBOT’s strategy to remain aligned with member priorities.
Networking and Leadership
The next Summer Sizzle networking event takes place Aug. 26 at Milestones South Point, offering a prime opportunity for members to connect. Board leadership includes chair Rory Morgan of KSW Lawyers, vice-chair Roger Steers of RJC Engineers, and past-chair Baljit Dhaliwal of TJ’s Education & Safety Training Corp., supported by an accomplished team of directors from across industries.
