Sheldon Clare, MLA for Prince George-North Cariboo, draws on 30+ years in education and community leadership to serve in B.C.’s legislature.

Veteran Educator Turned Legislator

Sheldon Clare, the MLA representing Prince George-North Cariboo, has transitioned from a long career in post-secondary education to the political arena. First elected in 2024, Clare also serves as the Official Opposition Deputy Whip in British Columbia’s Legislative Assembly.

Years of Commitment to the College of New Caledonia

Since 1993, Clare has been a dedicated faculty member at the College of New Caledonia. Beyond his teaching role, he spent 12 years negotiating contracts on behalf of staff and served six terms as chair of the provincial Bargaining Co-ordination Committee, shaping labour agreements across B.C.’s post-secondary sector.

Deep Roots in the Community

Born and raised in Prince George, Clare has long been recognized as a committed advocate for education and local development. His personal connection to the region shapes his legislative priorities, which focus on improving opportunities for northern communities.

Balancing Public Service and Family Life

Clare is also a proud father to two daughters, Elise and Danielle. He often credits his family for keeping him grounded as he balances the demands of political life with his ongoing dedication to community service.

Looking Ahead in the Legislature

As Deputy Whip, Clare plays a key role in maintaining party discipline, supporting caucus coordination, and contributing to policy discussions. His decades of leadership in education continue to inform his approach to addressing provincial challenges in the years ahead.
