6 Free Outdoor Movies to Catch in Surrey This August

Surrey will host six free outdoor movie nights across August in Newton, City Centre, and Clayton. The Downtown Surrey BIA’s Movies Under the Stars returns to Holland Park with Moana 2 on August 9 and Mufasa: The Lion King on August 16. Newton parks will feature Shrek 2, Space Jam: A New Legacy, and Encanto on Wednesdays starting August 6, while Clayton Community Centre will screen Bolt on August 22. All events include pre-movie activities, free popcorn (while supplies last), and food vendors. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs and arrive early.

Free Outdoor Films Coming to Surrey Parks This August

Surrey residents can enjoy six free outdoor movie nights throughout August, with screenings taking place in Newton, City Centre, and Clayton. These events include family-friendly films, pre-movie activities, and free popcorn at select venues, creating a festive community atmosphere.

City Centre: Movies Under the Stars at Holland Park

Holland Park will host two outdoor movie nights as part of the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association’s (BIA) annual Movies Under the Stars series. On Saturday, August 9, Moana 2 will be screened, followed by Mufasa: The Lion King on Saturday, August 16.

Both evenings begin with pre-show entertainment at 6 p.m. at 13428 Old Yale Road, featuring live performances, crafts, and activities for kids. Free popcorn will be available starting at 7:30 p.m., while supplies last. The movie begins around 9:15 p.m.

The North Surrey Lions Club will sell hot dogs and drinks. The event is presented by PCI Developments.

Newton: Movie Nights in Three Local Parks

As part of the City’s Focus Newton initiative, three Wednesday movie nights are planned at different parks, starting with pre-movie fun at 6:30 p.m. including mini golf and games:

August 6 – Shrek 2 at T.E. Scott Park
August 13 – Space Jam: A New Legacy at Newton Athletic Park
August 20 – Encanto at Chimney Heights Park

All films begin at dusk, and attendees can grab free popcorn, while supplies last.

Clayton: Bolt Screens at Community Centre Lawn

The final outdoor movie of the month will take place on Friday, August 22 at Clayton Community Centre (7155 187A St.), with a screening of Disney’s Bolt. The event includes pre-show activities running until dusk, when the movie begins.

Food will be available from Kona Ice and Odd Burger trucks. Recreation Surrey will be selling popcorn (cash only) and hosting an information table with community resources.

Community Building Through Film and Fun

These free events aim to bring Surrey residents together through accessible outdoor entertainment. With a mix of animated hits and live activities, the City encourages families and individuals to enjoy these late-summer evenings in a safe and festive setting.

Attendees are advised to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs and arrive early to make the most of the pre-show entertainment and food options.
