KPU Music Camps Invite Kids and Teens to Join This August

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is hosting summer music camps this August at its Surrey campus for youth aged 5 to 17. The World Rhythms Camp (Aug. 11–15) offers hands-on percussion experiences for children, while the Teen Singing Camp (Aug. 5–8 & Aug. 18–22) focuses on vocal training and performance skills. Led by KPU’s music department as part of its community-focused rebranding, the camps aim to nurture creativity and musical talent through interactive, inclusive programming. Registration is open on KPU’s website.

KPU Music Camps Invite Kids and Teens to Join This August

KPU hosts music camps this August in Surrey for ages 5–17, offering hands-on rhythm and singing programs to inspire young musicians in the community.

KPU Offers Summer Music Camps for Youth in Surrey

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is offering specialized summer music camps this August at its Surrey campus, targeting youth across two age groups. The initiative is part of the university’s push to revitalize its music programming and strengthen ties with the local community through arts education.

Two Distinct Programs for Different Age Groups

The World Rhythms Summer Camp, designed for children aged 5 to 11, will run from August 11 to 15, between 9 a.m. and noon. For teenagers aged 12 to 17, the Teen Singing Camp will be offered during two separate sessions: August 5 to 8 and August 18 to 22, also from 9 a.m. to noon. Previous sessions of both camps were held in July.

Reimagining Music Education Through Community Engagement

Dr. Gordon Cobb, Chair of the KPU Music Department, explained that the camps are part of a broader rebranding strategy. “Our goal is to build stronger connections with the Surrey community and offer youth a creative platform to learn and grow,” said Dr. Cobb. He emphasized the importance of accessible and inclusive programming for families in the region.

Interactive Rhythm Experience for Children

According to KPU’s promotional material, the World Rhythms camp offers a “high-energy, hands-on experience” where children explore global percussion styles, play collaboratively, and connect through rhythm. The camp also includes activities that immerse participants in natural outdoor rhythms and cultural traditions from around the world.

Vocal Confidence Building for Teens

The Teen Singing Camp focuses on developing vocal strength and stage presence. It includes training in breath control, vocal health, and performance techniques. Whether participants are new to singing or experienced performers, the program promises to help them “find their voice and shine on stage,” according to a KPU social media post.

How to Register and Participate

Registration for the August sessions is available via KPU’s official website, with limited spots remaining. The camps are open to all skill levels and aim to foster musical creativity, collaboration, and confidence in young participants from Surrey and surrounding areas.
