Surrey Set for a Vibrant August of Music, Theatre & Culture
A diverse lineup of events is lighting up Surrey this August, with something for every age and interest. From world-class concerts and Punjabi theatre to multicultural festivals and open-air films, the city is offering both free and ticketed events across its venues and parks.
Live Music & Dance Across the City
Civic Plaza will be the heartbeat of Latin rhythms with the Surrey Latin Festival from August 9–10, featuring music, dance, food, and art from Latin American communities. The popular Sounds of Summer Concert Series continues weekly at various parks, with performances by Mazacote (Aug. 27) and Cookin’ With Brass (Aug. 6).
Meanwhile, international stars like Kailash Kher & Kailasa (Aug. 24) and Pritom Hasan (Aug. 10) will perform at the Bell Performing Arts Centre.
Theatre Reflecting Community Voices
The Surrey Arts Centre is presenting community-led productions including Seniors Take On Things We Never Talk About (Aug. 6–8), a play developed by and for senior artists. Punjabi-language drama Mewa (Aug. 22–23), tells a historic Canadian story through Surrey’s Punjabi lens.
Emerging local theatre collective Surrey Drama Queens debuts Scene and Heard (Aug. 23–24), a powerful showcase of women-led stories.
Multicultural Festivals & Celebrations
Cultural diversity shines through events like the Mother Language Festival at Holland Park (Aug. 10), celebrating over 170 languages spoken in Surrey. Later in the month, the Afro Caribbean Cultural Summerfest (Aug. 23) welcomes reggae icon Luciano and community performances to Civic Plaza.
Comedy, Film & Family Fun
Yuk Yuk’s in Cloverdale will host regular stand-up nights, and Bollywood star Varun Grover brings his new comedy show Love, Death & Ketchup to town on September 13.
Families can enjoy Movies Under the Stars at Holland Park every Friday night, featuring Moana 2 (Aug. 9) and Mufasa (Aug. 16). In Newton, the Summer Movie Series includes family favourites like Shrek 2 and Encanto.
Local Markets, Art & Food
The Arts Council of Surrey hosts outdoor artist markets on August 9 and 16, while the Surrey Urban Farmers’ Market runs weekly at Royal Kwantlen Park.
Food lovers can enjoy local bites and beverages at Battle of the Brews (Aug. 16), a fundraising beer tasting event hosted by the Surrey Fire Fighters in support of youth programs.
