Rapunzel Sing-Along to Enchant South Surrey Park

A youth-led group in South Surrey is bringing Disney magic to the community with a Rapunzel-themed sing-along on August 27 at Bakerview Park (4–8 p.m.). Organized by the Playful Palette Foundation—run by Earl Marriott Secondary students—the event features games, crafts, balloon-twisting, and a Disney sing-along led by Rapunzel (Emma Forth) and Youth Ambassador Maria Zhang. The event is by donation, with proceeds supporting access to arts programs for local youth. Families are encouraged to attend in costume and enjoy this playful, community-driven evening.

Youth Group to Host Princess-Themed Community Event

A group of South Surrey high school students is bringing a touch of fairytale magic to Bakerview Park on Wednesday, August 27, with a Rapunzel-themed sing-along and activity day for families. The event will run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., inviting children to dress as their favourite Disney characters and immerse themselves in a world of song, games, and community spirit.

Local Students Take the Lead in Organizing

The event is spearheaded by the Playful Palette Foundation, a youth-led organization founded by students from Earl Marriott Secondary School. Foundation president Sabine Lapointe, alongside executive members Lucy Prior, Hanna Hakak, Iva Popadich, Aaliyah Chandler, Viola Fairbrother, and Daria Komarova, has coordinated the project with help from the White Rock Youth Ambassadors.

Disney-Themed Fun for All Ages

From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., kids can enjoy hair tinselling, balloon-twisting, parachute games, arts and crafts, and temporary tattoos, all offered by a team of teen volunteers and supported by beloved local performer Korki the Clown—who is donating her time. At 5 p.m., the White Rock Youth Ambassadors, including Miss White Rock 2025, Wenshu-Ding, will join the festivities.

Evening Performance and Sing-Along

At 6 p.m., the magic peaks with a meet-and-greet with Emma Forth, appearing as Rapunzel, joined by Youth Ambassador Maria Zhang. The duo will lead a Disney sing-along, featuring classics loved by generations.

Supporting Arts Access for Youth

The event follows the foundation’s broader mission: making arts education more accessible for youth who face financial barriers. Donations collected will go toward covering event costs and future programming that supports local talent in dance, music, and visual arts.

A Strong Community of Teen Volunteers

Lapointe emphasized the dedication of her peers: “We’re lucky so many teens have stepped up as leaders,” she said. Notably, Gabi Silveira and Kai Bundy have taken on roles as activity leaders, a position typically reserved for Playful Palette executives.
