Sun, sea, and Queen! Over 11,000 fans hit White Rock’s waterfront as Simply Queen lit up the stage in a record-setting summer concert.

Sunshine, Soundwaves & a Whole Lot of Queen

Imagine this: a glowing sunset over the Pacific, warm breezes, and the timeless voice of Freddie Mercury soaring through the speakers. That was the scene at White Rock’s East Beach on July 17 as over 11,000 fans gathered for a night to remember.

The Concerts at the Pier series delivered another smashing hit—this time with Simply Queen, a tribute band that brought Freddie’s magic roaring back to life.

Queen’s Legacy Reignites the Coast

With the crowd packed along the waterfront near Grand Chief Bernard Robert Charles Memorial Plaza, Simply Queen rocked the stage with a high-energy performance that had everyone singing along. From “We Will Rock You” to a powerful rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the band’s frontman Rick Rock—channeling Freddie Mercury—was nothing short of electric.

Backed by Charles Christopher Lambrick on guitar, Mitch Taylor on bass, and Phil Charette on drums, the Ontario-based group proved why they’re a fan favorite.

“This crowd was on par with 2023’s 54-40 show,” said Alex Nixon, executive director of the White Rock BIA. “We saw around 10,000 to 11,000 people. That’s just shy of our record with Colin James at 13,000.”

Opening Vibes and Upcoming Shows

Before Queen fever swept the crowd, the evening started on a mellow note. Folk-pop duo Avenue Elle (Alison Lumley and Chrissie Natoli) treated early attendees to heartfelt originals and dreamy harmonies.

But don’t worry if you missed this one—more music is on the horizon.

Up next in the TD Ready Commitment series:

  • August 14 at Memorial Park (West Beach):
Terri-Lynn Williams-Davidson and her band sGaanaGwa, joined by Chilliwack legends Bill Henderson and Claire Lawrence, will blend traditional Haida sounds with modern flair.
Opening act: The Wilds, an eco-conscious folk-rock band.
  • August 21 (7 p.m.) wraps the series with a bang:
Five Alarm Funk brings 20 years of explosive, high-voltage funk-rock to the pier.
    Opening act: Pax.

Why White Rock Rocks in Summer

Whether you’re a lifelong Queen fan or simply looking for a good time, the Concerts at the Pier series keeps delivering unforgettable nights by the sea. With stunning views, a family-friendly vibe, and killer performances, it’s easy to see why White Rock’s waterfront is the place to be this summer.
