White Rock Councillor Resigns Ahead of Byelection Shift
White Rock councillor Michele Partridge has formally resigned from her post, citing health-related reasons. Her unexpected decision was shared during Monday’s council meeting by Mayor Megan Knight, who read aloud a written statement from Partridge.
Partridge, elected in 2022 as a first-time councillor, said that “after much reflection,” stepping away from public office was necessary. While health was the driving factor, she expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve her community.
She thanked her fellow councillors, city staff, and extended a special note of appreciation to Mayor Knight, describing her as a personal mentor.
Byelection Landscape Shifts Again
Mayor Knight acknowledged that this resignation will significantly impact the upcoming byelection, scheduled for September 27.
Originally intended to fill the vacancy left by former councillor Ernie Klassen—recently elected as the MP for South Surrey-White Rock—the vote will now be for two seats instead of one.
With both Klassen’s departure and Partridge’s resignation, the city’s electoral dynamic has shifted. Voters will now play a larger role in shaping White Rock’s political future this fall.
