A joint investigation is underway after a shooting occurred late Sunday morning, July 20, in a residential area of Surrey’s Guildford neighbourhood. The incident took place shortly after 11 a.m. near 152 Street and 96B Avenue, prompting a swift police response.

Police Locate Shell Casings, No Injuries Reported

Officers from the Surrey Police Service (SPS) and the RCMP’s Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) attended the scene and discovered multiple shell casings in the area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no property damage has been confirmed at this time.

Investigation Still in Early Stages

According to Sgt. Tige Pollock, spokesperson for Surrey Police, the investigation is still in its early stages. Authorities have not yet determined whether this incident is connected to a recent string of extortion-related shootings that have targeted South Asian business owners across the Lower Mainland.

Units Collaborate to Gather Evidence

Members of the SPOSU General Investigation Unit (GIU) have joined Surrey Police in gathering forensic evidence and canvassing the neighbourhood. Officers are working to establish a timeline and motive for the shooting, while increasing patrols in the area to reassure residents.

Public Assistance Requested

Investigators are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or possesses CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the shooting to come forward. Individuals with information are asked to contact the Surrey Police Service at 604-599-0502 and reference file number 2025-41636 (SU).

Community Concerns Amid Ongoing Violence

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the community, as Surrey continues to grapple with a wave of violent crime in recent months. Authorities are emphasizing their commitment to public safety and transparency as they work to identify those responsible.
