Surrey’s 32 Avenue Upgrade Kicks Off New Phase of Growth
Surrey transportation just hit a major milestone. With shovels in hand and optimism in the air, Mayor Brenda Locke and city officials broke ground this week on Phase 2 of the 32 Avenue improvements, extending from 176 Street to 184 Street in Campbell Heights. The skies cleared just in time for the ceremony, symbolizing brighter roads ahead for Surrey’s economy and commuters.
Mayor Locke emphasized that these upgrades are more than roadwork—they’re economic lifelines. “Trucking is our economy on wheels,” she said. “This project keeps Surrey and the province moving forward.” With Phase 1 already wrapped up from 184 to 188 Street, the focus now shifts to expanding road capacity and making travel safer.
What’s Changing Along 32 Avenue?
Phase 2 will widen the road from two lanes to four, making space for growing traffic and smoother truck access. It will also include multi-use pathways for pedestrians and cyclists, enhancing road safety for everyone. Locke noted that new drainage infrastructure will also support future development in the area.
The 32 Avenue corridor is vital to Surrey’s Campbell Heights business hub, which fuels over 7,000 jobs. With 365 hectares of industrial land in Surrey—the largest available in the region—the pressure to improve access is real and growing.
Big Investment, Bigger Impact
Surrey is investing over $22 million across multiple phases of the project. This includes a $7.2 million contribution from TransLink, a critical funding partner.
“Together we’re not just building roads,” Locke said, “we’re building opportunities for a stronger and safer community.”
Once Phase 2 wraps in 2026, Phase 3 will begin, focusing on the stretch from 192 to 196 Street.
