Surrey SkyTrain Riders to Face Delays Until August End

Surrey SkyTrain Riders to Expect Delays Through August
TransLink has announced 15-minute delays for commuters using Surrey’s Gateway, Surrey Central, and King George SkyTrain stations starting July 12 through August 2025 due to essential track switch replacement near Gateway station. Passengers heading to King George must transfer at Surrey Central. While service beyond Scott Road remains unaffected, riders are advised to plan ahead, check train screens, and expect reduced frequency during this period of infrastructure upgrades.

Surrey SkyTrain Riders to Face Delays Until August End

Surrey commuters using SkyTrain stations should expect 15-minute delays through August due to essential track maintenance, TransLink confirms.

Maintenance Brings Service Reductions in Surrey

Starting Saturday, July 12, TransLink is advising Metro Vancouver commuters to prepare for up to 15 minutes of additional travel time when using three key SkyTrain stations in Surrey. The service alert applies to Gateway, Surrey Central, and King George stations, and is expected to continue until the end of August 2025.

Reduced Trains Due to Track Switch Replacement

The delays are due to track switch replacement work near Gateway station, which requires the closure of one side of the track. Track switches are crucial for allowing trains to change routes safely and efficiently. With one side out of service, fewer trains can operate on the affected segment, resulting in longer wait times and platform crowding during peak hours.

Changes to Train Routing and Transfers

Passengers heading to King George Station must now transfer at Surrey Central Station using platforms 1 or 2, adding to travel time and possibly confusion for riders unfamiliar with platform changes. TransLink has emphasized the importance of checking the “next-train” screens at stations to ensure correct boarding.

No Impact Beyond Scott Road

The Expo Line’s service between Waterfront and Scott Road, Braid, or Production Way–University stations remains unaffected. TransLink assures riders that all other parts of the system will continue to run on regular schedules throughout the maintenance period.

Rider Advisory and Commuter Preparedness

TransLink is urging commuters to plan ahead, adjust departure times, and use trip-planning tools available on its website and at station kiosks. Riders are also encouraged to explore alternate transit options where possible. The agency says this upgrade is part of ongoing infrastructure renewal to improve long-term reliability of the SkyTrain network.
