The Surrey Eagles are facing a challenging start to their 2025 British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) campaign. The South Surrey-based team, fresh off their 2024 Fred Page Cup victory, secured their first win of the season on Sunday (Nov. 2) with a 9–5 triumph over the Powell River Kings after a winless streak.
Tough Standings but Steady Spirit
Currently sitting at 1–14 with two points, the Eagles are at the bottom of both the Coastal East Conference and the overall BCHL standings. Despite the slow start, co-owner Ron Brar remains positive, emphasizing that rebuilding years are part of junior hockey.
“It’s somewhere we’ve never been before, but it’s not uncommon in this sport,” said Brar. “We’re proud of the players who’ve moved on to NCAA, USHL, and WHL teams — that’s a win in itself.”
Growth Beyond the Ice
Off the ice, the Eagles continue to thrive with community projects like the Birds and Buddies initiative, which pairs players with local students. Brar credited the coaching team, led by Head Coach and GM Brian Passmore, for their hard work and leadership in reshaping the roster.
Recent trades have strengthened the lineup, and the return of goaltender Jaiden Sharma has boosted morale. “You can see the team starting to gel,” Brar added. “They’re playing with more cohesion and confidence each game.”
Looking Ahead
While the season’s start has been rocky, the ownership remains confident in the team’s direction and development system. The Eagles aim to regain their momentum and continue inspiring local fans as they rebuild for another championship run.
