Delta police are investigating after a sewing needle was discovered inside a child’s Halloween candy bar in North Delta.
The discovery
A parent reported the incident on Sunday, Nov. 2, after their child unwrapped what appeared to be a Coffee Crisp bar and found a needle sticking out of one end.
Fortunately, the child was not injured.
The family had been trick-or-treating in the area of 75th Avenue and 113th Street to 118th Street and 74B Avenue.
Police warning to parents
Officers are reminding parents to inspect all Halloween treats for signs of tampering before allowing children to eat them.
Anyone who finds suspicious items is asked to contact the Delta Police Department’s non-emergency line at 604-946-4411.
Similar case in Surrey
The warning comes just after a Surrey Police Service alert, issued when a parent found a metal staple inside a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.
That incident occurred in Clayton Heights, between 188–190 Streets and 70–72 Avenues, and is also under investigation.
Police in both Delta and Surrey continue to investigate the reports to determine if candy tampering was involved.
