Nearly $500K a Year to Keep Surrey City Hall Clean
Keeping Surrey City Hall spotless comes with a hefty price tag. City Council has approved a $491,343.35 contract for GDI Services (Canada) LP to handle janitorial and custodial maintenance from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026.
The contract, capped at a spending limit of $520,000, was approved following 20 submissions from competing companies.
What the Contract Covers
Under the agreement, GDI Services will be responsible for maintaining all areas of City Hall, including:
- Waste collection and disposal
- Cleaning of floors, stairs, washrooms, and public areas
- Servicing of dispensers and sanitization points
- Wiping down walls, ceilings, doors, elevators, and glass surfaces
- “Special project” cleaning such as carpets, draperies, and upholstery
- Immediate cleanup of exterior litter and sweeping of entrance areas
Focus on Eco-Friendly Practices
Joey Brar, Surrey’s General Manager of Corporate Services, said the city expects all contractors to incorporate environmentally responsible cleaning practices.
“Contractors are expected to use green cleaning products wherever feasible, subject to performance and City specifications,” Brar explained.
The one-year contract ensures that City Hall remains clean, safe, and environmentally compliant, reflecting Surrey’s ongoing commitment to sustainability in public operations.
