Delta Police investigate a suspected extortion-related shooting at a North Delta home; no injuries reported as probe expands across region.
Extortion-linked shooting rocks quiet North Delta neighbourhood
Delta Police are investigating what they believe to be an extortion-related shooting that targeted a residence in North Delta early Sunday morning, October 26. Officers responded around 9:43 a.m. to reports of shots fired into a home in the 11200-block of 78B Avenue, near Sungod Recreation Centre.
According to police, the residence was occupied at the time, but no injuries were reported.
Suspect caught on video fleeing in white SUV
Investigators confirmed that multiple shell casings were recovered at the scene. CCTV footage shows a suspect exiting a white SUV, firing several rounds into the home, and then fleeing the area.
In a press release, the Delta Police Department (DPD) stated that preliminary findings indicate this was a targeted attack connected to an ongoing extortion investigation.
Police link case to broader extortion probe
Delta Police say investigators are working with the Provincial Extortion Task Force and partner agencies to determine whether the incident is connected to other active files in the region.
As of October 21, the DPD was investigating five extortion cases — four involving threats and one previous shooting from 2024 in which no one was hurt. Police have not yet confirmed whether Sunday’s shooting is tied to any of those cases.
Officers canvassing neighbourhood for evidence
Police have begun door-to-door canvassing in the neighbourhood, requesting residents to review any CCTV or dash-camera footage from around the time of the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Delta Police Department at 604-946-4444.
Another shooting in same area last week
The latest attack follows another early-morning shooting on October 19, when shots were fired into an unoccupied basement suite in the 11300-block of 82nd Avenue.
That earlier incident was also believed to be targeted, but police said it did not appear to be extortion-related. CCTV captured a suspect in a dark hoodie and mask, linked to a white sedan.
Community on alert as police widen probe
The DPD emphasized that although recent shootings appear targeted, the pattern is raising public concern in North Delta.
Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity, and cooperate with investigators as they work to determine whether a wider network of organized extortion is operating in the Lower Mainland.
